Fast indicator flashing on 2011 Mk3 Ford Focus -- but bulb is ok.

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2011 Mk3 Ford Focus 1.6 Titanium.

Recently the indicator started flashing really fast on one side (left).

When I checked the bulbs I found the rear indicator bulb wasn't flashing but the side and front were fine.

I bought a new replacement bulb however the new bulb isn't working either, the indicator is still flashing fast.

To check the new bulb wasn't faulty I tested it on the other working side and it was fine.

I also checked that all other signals were working fine.

Can you please advise what I should try next?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Steve

Hi

With the indicators switched on, try gently moving the bulb in its holder. If it starts to flash you have a loose or dirty connection where the bulb plugs in. Try wiggling the connections on the back of the light fitting. Again, if it flashes then you have a faulty connection. Check if any of them are corroded or look bent out of shape compared to te others.

I say bulb has gone somewhere on that side

@dezwez... with a friends help I checked all the other bulbs n that side and all are working except the one I'm trying to sort out.

@Janner7859...  will try your suggestions and let you know.

But if there's no loose connection or bad earthing is there a flasher relay/unit or a fuse that may need replacing?... and where would these be located?

There will be 'a bad or loose connection' you just have to find it !

Fuses are simple things they either work or they don't, and since all other indicators are working you can cross that off the list of things to check.

Cars no longer have flasher units for the indicators, they are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) which is part of the fuse box located behind the glovebox. There is a common problem with water finding its way in to the connectors of the BCM and causing the pins to corrode which may be the case in your car.

@unofix... thanks, I'm off work tomorrow so I will see if I can track down this bad or loose connection

Old thread but having the exact same issue - did you ever find a resolution?

Thanks in advance!
