Won’t start after being driven

Featured Replies

I have recently got an 07 mk6 fiesta zetec s and have had a problem where the car will start completely fine when it’s cold and after being driven for a very short while but when it has been taken out for a long drive and the engine is turned off it won’t start or it will struggle to start. Any suggestions?

possibly a weak battery or a corroded ground

What do you mean by this? Will the engine crank fine but won't fire? Or is the starter not even cranking the engine?

Petrol or diesel?

It will crank ok but no as well as it would when cold started. Also if it does crank up after being driven it won’t run properly. If it doesn’t start up at all we have to push it to get it to start.  and it is a petrol 1.6

The coils maybe?

Had a similar problem years ago and that proved to be the coil pack.

I put a new coil pack in about a week ago and didn’t solve the problem...

spark plugs, alternator not charging the battery, battery dying, starter motor failing? anyone got other suggestions lol

Sounds like the battery voltage is low.

Have you measured the battery voltage with a meter ?

No I haven’t but I’m going to buy a new battery stronger battery see if that’s the problem

Don't you think it would be wise to at least do some basic voltage checks on the battery and alternator before spending money on a 'stronger battery' ? 🤔

Yeah, but he can start the car when the engine is cold, but when the engine is warm, he cannot start it again.

So I don't think it's the battery

I only said it would be good to measure the battery voltage with a meter, which would help with the diagnosis of the re-start problem. It's the OP who wants to throw a new battery at the problem without doing any testing.

dont kwikfit / ats do a free battery check??? 😄😄

The only reason I’m getting a new battery cause the other one died recently ironically. Mum left the lights on all night. So either way in need a new one

ah yes !! leaving the lights on and running the battery totally flat often does just finish off an old battery.
