A/C issue

Recently noticed a build up of liquid in both front foot wells which upon inspection is coming from what I think is the AC unit behind the centre console. The unit is covered in condensation. 
 

More recently noticed that the car is extremely hard to keep mist free from the Windows. Also white smoke from the vents when putting foot down. Smells a bit iffy, just checked the cabin filter and it’s filthy. 
 

any ideas before I take it back to the dealership?

The liquid can not be AC fill fluid, that needs about 5Bar (75PSI) to keep it liquid at 20C, so it will instantly evaporate. Most likely it is water (condensate), which always forms on the AC evaporator while it is operating. There should be a drain tube from this, if blocked or displaced the water will get into the footwells. Another common cause of misted up windows is the re-circ flap, that closes off the fresh air intake. If jammed closed misting up happens quickly.

Any idea what the white smoke through the air vents could be? Stops when I turn off the blowers then doesn’t come back.

Any idea what the white smoke could be? Only happens on load, and stops as soon as the blowers are off. Nothing from the engine bay at all and no leaks I can see.

No, not really!

If very humid air is drawn in to the heater/ac unit (due to moisture build up in the cabin, as the misting up of windows suggests), then when it passes through the cold evaporator it will become a mist of tiny water droplets. But it is hard to see any link to engine power. A/C evaporator temperature,  if the A/C is working ok, should not vary much with rpm, and certainly should not vary with torque (throttle opening or engine load).

If there was a coolant leak from the heater matrix, then any build-up of pressure in the engine cooling system would spray very hot coolant into the ac system, but it would smell quite strongly of anti-freeze, assuming the car has the proper anti-freeze content. And coolant level would drop slowly.

Head gasket leaks can link engine torque (combustion pressure) to cooling system pressure, but it does not sound like the car has any of the other symptoms of a head gasket leak (coolant loss, white smoke & anti-freeze smell in exhaust, grey emulsion in oil, dirty or oily coolant, air locks in heating system, engine overheating). Without at least some of these symptoms, a HG leak is unlikely.

Car runs completely fine. Coolant levels are within the usual range. If I have the entire Ac/fans off completely there is no white smoke. Only noticed the smoke twice. Each time from two different vents and at load or just after a run. Once switching off the fans and back on it’s gone.

I would say that rules out head gasket problems.

So the most likely things are a problem with the condensate drain hose from the A/C, or a problem with with the Re-Circ flap or its control system.

Sure, still safe to use then until I can get it to the dealership? Got warranty and stuff. I’ll just keep all the heater and AC stuff off. To avoid ruining the carpets.

Nothing you have said makes me think there may be a safety problem with the car. There may be long term damage problems, most of which should be well covered by warranty on a 2018 car. But I would try to dry it out as much as possible if there was any delay in getting it sorted. Excess moisture can cause long term damage that may fall outside the warranty period, like corrosion in wiring, electronics and connectors. In this weather, rain leaking in seems to be a less likely cause, so the heating & A/C system are the prime culprits for water build up inside the cabin.

Maybe take photographic evidence of water or damp problems in case the dealership can't (or won't!) see the problems by the time it gets to them.
