Key not working

Featured Replies

Tonight my key wouldn’t unlock my car (Ford fiesta 2018)…tried the spare key which also didn’t work. Then I found the hidden key and that did work. Also, the buttons were then working as normal after I had opened the door with the hidden key. Just wondering if anyone had the same issue and know what may have caused it.

Hi Chloe, I've just had a very similar problem with my Focus MK4. It turns out that when the car battery starts to get low the car starts to save power by turning off things it can do without, including keyless entry and other stuff. Oddly enough this power save system was originally introduced on the Fiesta around about 2018, I think.

You need to put the car battery on charge for 24 hours and then everything should just return to normal (mine did after a good overnight charge). I guess that you probably don't do many miles, and possibly lots of short journeys which is a real problem for modern cars with 'smart' charging alternators.
