Fiesta Ecoboost 1.0L - Bonnet Open warning message

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first post to this site so please excuse any rookie errors or mistakes that I make.
Was driving to the shops today and got about 2 miles from my house when a warning message appeared on my central screen stating that the bonnet was open. I pulled to the nearest driveway and checked my bonnet which was firmly closed. I opened the bonnet and then made sure it was again firmly closed.

I returned home and did some Googling and watched some YouTube videos which suggested that it was likely a problem with a sensor in the bonnet catch. As I was doing this my car alarm went off for no reason. Further googling suggested that the two might be related and caused by a short circuit of some wire.

My car is a 2017 Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost MK7. I am very inexperienced when it comes to cars so looking for any help/advice or if anyone has experienced this before.

My car just had a full service last week at my local garage so wasn't sure whether to take it to them although I would rather not pay a full hours labour if it's something very simple.

Thanks in advance for any replies 😀

Alexander

the bonnet sensors are prone to just stop working, and can cause the alarm to go off, my mate had this happen to his fiesta, your options are to either buy a new bonnet latch assembly (make sure if you do this that it is the model that has the sensor), or use a peice of wire and jump the two terminals on the connector bypassing it, this isn't necessarily a big issue as a lot of fiestas my zetec included don't actually have that sensor
