Zetec 1.2 petrol 82bhp 2015 Induction kit

Featured Replies

I want change my stock air filter/box to a induction kit, I’m aware of heat soak and all the rest, i want a good induction kit maybe a enclosed one but I don’t know which one is best and the internet ain’t showing me nothing as options,

What are you hoping to gain by fitting an induction kit? You can't really get much more power out of a 1.2 naturally aspirated engine, and the sound isn't really noticeable unless you point it out.

That’s exactly what I thought but I wanted to sure, so reason why I wanted to do it it’s cus I heard it can make mpg better and also better acceleration. As my mpg is around 37 and also put a better back box to let some air out and make my mpg better and also better sound and maybe a bit more power but what mods can I do to gain a little power and also better that you recommend As unfortunately I’m stuck with this car until my insurance goes down

It's a negligible different in mpg and acceleration, more of a placebo effect imo.

There's little you can do for more power on a 1.2 naturally aspirated engine. After spending a crap ton of money, best you'll get is like 5 hp, which you won't really notice.

Your best bet for a faster car is to ditch weight. The rear seats, boot trim and carpet are usually the first to go.

You either have power, or you have fuel economy. Unless you defy the laws of physics, you can't have both. More air into the engine = more fuel required. More fuel means bigger bang, and more power.

There's thread after thread on here on this subject and I'm afraid the answer is always pretty much as Luke has described it.

I'm guessing from your comments about insurance that you're a new driver? In which case messing about with modifications is not going to help with your premium. So I would suggest just saving your cash, and putting it towards your next car when the time comes.

At least you have 82bhp - my first car (850 Mini) only had 34!😀

I'd third Luke's comments.

Just my 10p worth but I owned a 1.2 for a short while before giving it to my son when he passed his test as a first car. It is annoying and frustrating having the slowest car in sight at any given time, but it is what it is and you'll never make it any quicker to be frank. Give in now. Its ***** money away you can save for your next car. The problem is not personal, it's not you, just the insurance companies don't know individuals so lump you all together. The difference with you and me as far as insurance companies go is I'm 52, still a boy racer and want a faster car, but, after driving for 35 years I'm just more likely to know when it's appropriate and when it's not to put my foot down. Hence the penalty that forces you into a 1.2 snail. FYI, my ST gives me 42mpg and other than a firmer ride is just as docile when I don't want to be silly which is 99% of the time.

I would say, for value, you'd be better off spending money on chassis and brakes than anything else. A set of ST struts and  springs and 17" ST-Line alloys from a breaker will put your insurance up a bit but you'll have far more fun and not have to slow down a great deal in the first place on bends like you do now. A set of ST calipers and discs up front would be a revelation too. Leave the drums alone on the back. Handling is the fun part of driving.

I'm with you there, and in a way getting the best out of a "slow" car can be a lot more satisfying. Just putting your foot down in something powerful is easy, keeping up momentum in something "slow" takes a bit more finesse.

My Mrs had an 82ps 1.25 for some years and I really enjoyed driving it. Didn't really think it needed bigger wheels etc though. It seemed to cling on pretty well on its 195/50 tyres which, come to think of it, were wider and lower profile than most "hot hatches" in the 80's/90's).

But is 35-37 mpg alright For this sort of car and I used a full tank in 293 miles.

There are so many factors affecting mpg - driving technique, road//traffic conditions etc.

I've always kept records and can tell you that our long term average was 43.46mpg, but it could dip down into the 30's with a prolonged spell of traffic driving. We mostly drive in a fairly rural area and you're in Greater London - vastly different driving conditions.

I don't think it's the most economical car tbh.

Being a young driver and trying to chase power, I'd imagine you have quite a heavy right foot. 35+ mpg is pretty normal for urban driving.

The 195/50/15" tyres were fitted to the Escort RS Turbo. However, that car, probably the same weight and size as the Mk7 Fiesta, had independent rear struts and kept those tyres a bit flatter to the road than a standard Fiesta 1.2 would. Hence why putting ST arm and struts on would reduce body roll and enable the tyres to do their things more predictably.  My ST ran on 15" steel wheels with cheapo 195/50/15" tyrers on for a bit as it's a Sleeper. Generally a decent ride and handling, but it's far better now it's on 17" alloys. ST-Line ones.

Are you still looking for one bud as I have one here that I'll sell cheap?
