Coolant very hot but engine seems a normal temperature

Featured Replies

Hello all, I’ve just bought a mk6 fiesta zetec s and got it home to realise that the temperature needle was still on 60. It was a 2 hour drive and the fan was on almost every time I stopped. I let the engine cool and started it again to see the needle stay off the bottom of the scale as if the ignition was off and then as it warmed up the needle moved to 60 which is the same distance as if it moved from 60 to 90 as it should. I also noticed the fan kick in and the coolant was quite hot. Im wondering if maybe there is a blockage or if something is faulty, or simply the coolant needing a good flush out and replacing which I’m going to do anyway. I’m pretty certain it’s not a head gasket as the water wasn’t bubbling and I it runs absolutely fine, there is no water in the oil and no oil in the water. Haven’t found any leaks and seen no evidence of a leak either, the engine runs fine as it got me from lands end to Exeter in Devon without a problem, the engine doesn’t even seem too hot compared to how warm my other fiesta and other engines in general get. Just the coolant gets really hot and the gauge goes from nothing to 60 rather than 60 to 90. I hope someone can help, cheers

sound's fine to me

Update: had a warning pop up saying the engine was overheating, pulled over and saw that the coolant was boiling out and was overflowing, the cap was loose so hoping it was the lack of pressure that caused this. I have emptied and flushed the system through and replaced it with good coolant hope it helps
