Where to find the gearbox code

Featured Replies

Hi all

My gearbox has gone and my car was towed to a garage.

I'm now desperately trying to get hold of a secondhand gearbox but I'm struggling to find what gearbox code I need. (been googling for 2 days now and getting nowhere)

Where abouts on the car is the code written? (the mechanic happens to be a VW specialist so doesn't know fords too well)

Things I know about the car:

Reg: MK10VVH

Type: JA8

Variant: HHJC1G

Model: Fiesta Titanium 90 TDCI

Capacity: 1,560 CC

Category: M1

Engine No: 9E26538

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

James

You just need to ensure you get the same spec gearbox as what came off (I know that's obvious)

Any Petrol gearbox is NOT compatible with your car

The 1.4 TDCi box is not compatible as the final gearing is different

And the 1.6 TDCi 90PS ECONETIC gearbox is also not compatible as that too has a different final gearing. (Unless yours is an econetic and you haven't said)

There must be some sort of identifier on your current gearbox, there will also be a code on the VIN label, but that won't help you if the box you are buying is already off the car.

I believe the base part number is 7002.

So, on your current gearbox, look for a tag with a part number in the following format

XXXX-7002-XX The "Xs" meaning that I don't know what they will say, BUT IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL THE "X"s MATCH THAT OF YOUR GEARBOX

Thanks!

Can you see the code on the gearbox from just looking underneath the car?
