Water ingress to the passenger side fuse board internal

Featured Replies

A problem has come about due to water leaking down into the fuse board on our Galaxy 2013 Mk3 and rotting the pins on the fuse board causing electrical problems

The fuse board available as it was booked in to Fords garage to have the work done but three weeks later we are told it can’t be fixed as the wiring loom is not available in this country or Germany so this renders the car scrap due to a water leak

we have had several Galaxy’s and until this one been very pleased and cannot afford to throw away £8000.00 paid for the car last year

Bell out any wiring to ensure the circuit is working correctly, if not take it to an auto electricians and have the bad circuits overlayed with new wires.

Or

If you want to just cut out the corroded wire and replace with new, please ensure you only solder the joints otherwise you will get CAN communications faults.

Terminals are widely available or cut a large section of good harness along with the BCM plugs from the donor vehicle and just replace the faulty wires.

Get a second hand BCM from a breakers and programme it to your vehicle. I'm not sure how the immobiliser system works in Galaxy but if the keys are programmed in the cluster, you will only need to programme the remotes or , worst case, programme the keys. The config files for the BCM can be downloaded and re-inputted into the donor BCM using Forscan and a suitable lead.  Make sure the replacement BCM is the same part number as the original, the Mondeo and S-Max probably use the same one.

You don't need a complete new harness, just fix the corroded wires, if any. There may not be any

Wrap the new BCM in cling film to prevent further water ingress.

Where you say rotten pins, not sure how bad, eg is there a bit of pin left. If it was mine I might be tempted to cut plugs off and solder wires direct to the pins if there is enough pin left. I can do soldering so I know it’s easy for me to say that. Without seeing it with my own eyes I don’t know how realistic this suggestion is.

Great, get yourself a decent ELM327 lead or, preferably, an OBDLink EX, download Forscan, get an extended license (all info on Forscan site)

Connect to vehicle, download original factory Asbuilt data and load to BCM

Make sure you protect replacement BCM from any further water ingress

Thank you Dave

downloaded the software and ordered the OBD EX Lead thanks for all your advice

I don’t believe Fords take on the job then three weeks later tell me they can’t get the loom ether here or Germany their reasoning is that the loom could have rotted away

It only went in there as the warranty company said so, then discovered that they don’t cover for corrosion always away out

 best regards

Good choice, Ensure you use the latest drivers from OBDLink and ensure you are on the latest firmware before use.

Good luck, let me know how you get on

Hi Dave

The board is now initialised thank you

but a separate thing has occurred it’s the drivers side door locking and window not working could it be a broken wire or the switch

Hi Dave

board initialised thank you

another problem has come up it’s the drivers door central locking and window can’t open the window or lock the door I don’t know where to start looking as the fuses are all ok in the back of the car could it be a broken wire in the door

I would think it possible you have a problem with the DCM (Door Control Module). Use Forscan and check for DTC's with regards to Drivers Door Module. You may get a 'Lost Communication with ..........' DTC

Thank you for the information hopefully we can sort it after the weekend

This is confusing - are you quoting yourself and then editing the answers ? I can't work out which are questions asked by you and which are answers for Dave ?

You could have damaged wiring I suppose, you'll have to "bell-out" that circuit to check.

Forscan can run a BCM test I believe, I don't know if that will help. Perform a reset too.

Obviously, re-check all connections to the BCM.

Had the windows and locks stopped working before you changed the BCM? It's a possibility, the replacement BCM is faulty too?

Hi Dave

thank you for your advice

central door locking was due to a broken wire working perfectly now

The headlight showing a fault on the dashboard was a level sensor on the rear

replaced all ok now

This was all due to a design fault on Fords part as just above the circuitboard is a strengthening bar and condensation runs down it then drips on the circuitboard

a bit of pipe lagging foam cut to size and a plastic bag over the board hopefully will now stop it happening again all Galaxy owner should look at doing this
