Central locking problem

Featured Replies

Just bought a 2007 Fiesta 1.25, with 18,000 genuine miles on clock.

However, when all doors locked, can only get into drivers door manually. It locks ok on remote. Also, the rear nearside door can only be opened from inside. All the doors remote lock OK, but these 2 seem to ignore unlock remote. If previous owner had a car battery change sometime, could this have affected it? Have read the proceedure of turning ignition key on/off 4 times, but not tried it yet. Is this the solution?

No, it is not due to changing the battery. The rear door problem is probably the result of being little used. Keep trying and see if it recovers. If other doors unlock remotely the system is working so the fault is in the door lock mechanism on the driver's door, most likely the switch which has an open and a closed contact. One of those being dirty can cause problems.

Hi Alan, the problem could be simple or a major event. Start with the easy stuff first.

Make sure the car is unlocked and just encase things go a bit funny leave the window open on the drivers door.

Dissconnect the negative lead from the battery and leave it 10 minutes before reconnecting. - check and see if that has sorted it.

Next try toggeling the central locking between "all doors" and just the "drivers door". To do this you hold both the lock and unlock buttons down on the keyfob for about 5 seconds. The indicators will flash once to confirm. Now use the keyfob as normal and see if the drivers door will lock / unlock with the keyfob. To set the system back to all doors just hold both buttons down again.

If you still have a problem then you need to connect up a laptop and run ForScan and check the DTC's which will then give a reason for the door locking problem.

Ok, thanks for that, will try the key method first.

I don't have the radio code, so don't want to disconnect the battery incase I lose radio.

Hi Unofix, tried both key fixes, but no joy.

Will try battery method if I can find radio code.

Thanks for suggestions.

Is there an easy way to access switch?

The radio code can be got if you know the serial number of the radio. Press both button 1 and 6 (some radios 2 and 6 ) in together for 5 seconds and radio should display its serial number. You only need the last six digits after the letter 'M' or 'V'

Or the serial number is on the Ford label on the back of the radio, Once you have the serial number I can tell you how to get the radio code.

Tried the 1-6 & 2-6, but no obvious serial numbers.

Only 1-6 showed any, 17 00 17, then 160213, several swp numbers. The radio is a 6000CD

Tried again, blink & could miss it, but believe it is V160213

No easy way to access the switch but with a circuit diagram, it will be possible to measure its functions at the central locking module. Trawl the net, it will be out there somewhere.

Years ago I had similar problem with rear door on a Granada with central locking. Took door trim off, oiled the door lock mechanism and it was ok after that. I was lucky it was that simple. Yours could be it just needs that.

Download Forscan from here;  https://forscan.org/home.html    Its Free

You will need an ELM327 lead to connect to your OBDII port which you can get from Tunnelrat electronics (£17.99)

https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/USB_Modified_with_switch_ELM327/p4541936_17045457.aspx

You will be able to check the operation of the switches and 'Door Control Modules' which should help you find the fault

Have tried to solve my problem using the suggested "disconnect negative terminal for 10 minutes", but that did not work.

New problem by dooiing that, my radio needs the code input, but only 6 number buttons on radio & code is 8194.

Help!

If I remember correctly it's:-

Press button 1 - 8 times

Press button 2 - 1 times

Press button 3 - 9 times

Press button 4 - 4 times

Press buttom 5 to enter code

Its a very long time since I did this so I might be wrong

Thanks for reminding me. Yes, that's it.

Thanks, found solution on website, feeling a llittle foolish now.

Next problem I need help with, is how to reset clock. My owners manual doesn't seem to match the dashboard. It mentions buttons 4 & 5 which only exist under glass, so not able to press. Any ideas pls.

Also, in regard to my central locking problem, have noticed a "double locking" sequence in manual. Is there a way of disabling this, so perhaps returning system to 'normal'?

Tried that, thought it had worked, but after locking, drivers door would not unlock using fob.😥

So as was said by @anon back in September, the drivers door lock is faulty. The little microswitch inside the latch is stuck or broke. You need to get a replacment latch. Try vehicle recycling centres (Scrapyard) they go for £20 - £30

All Fords for nearly the last 30 years have had a double locking sequence. You press once to lock (but doors can still be opened from the inside) and press twice to 'Dead Lock' the doors. It's not something you disable.
