Focus 2009. Airbag/ice/handbrake light

Featured Replies

Morning folks. This morning driving into work, I noticed airbag light / seatbelt light/ ice light and handbrake light flickering then staying on. Radio also decided to switch on and off at the same point?

Did this for most of the journey.

Any ideas? Apologies if this has been covered in a previous post. I had a search but couldn’t find any similar.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Good morning James, very unlikely that you have that many unrelated faults all come up at once. A couple of possibilities (a) a multi-pin connector has become loose (b) fault with the BCM (Body Control Module).

What you need is a wiring schematic to be able to find a common point that all those circuits go through.

I would first check the BCM, it is part of the fuse panel behind the glovebox. Look for signs of water and check all the plugs and sockets on the BCM for signs of corrosion (green fur). Best to disconnect the battery before you start pulling the plugs out of the BCM, and make sure you know your radio code.

Perfect, sounds like a great place to start! Many thanks

I agree, reading the post I thought start at bcm. It hinges down under the glovebox. Has loads of plugs in it. Although it just looks like a fuse box it has a circuit board and computer chips in it. Sometimes just unplugging and plugging the connectors back in cures this kind of problem. But sometimes they get water inside.

Will give that a try. Been driving today and no sign of the problem. Will see what’s it’s like driving home.

thanks for all your help!

Hi, I'm having the exact problem intermittently for almost two months now. I have also posted separately about it on this forum.

So far the car electrician swapped the ignition contacts and re-soldered the gauge cluster. It however didn't get fixed.

Since you are the only person on the internet having the same exact issue as me, you can hopefully guide me to the source of the problem? I would be thankful if you can provide me with more info on what you did to resolve this, if you ever did.

This has been bugging me so much because radio keeps turning off/on and dash lights flashing. Can feels unreliable doing this.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Well you haven't been here since 2022 but maybe someone else can help me instead. @unofixwhere can I find the multiplug connectors? I've already checked the fuse box and swapped every fuse to no avail.

Hi,

Did you resolve the issue? I have the same problem.

Check this thread.

just had to resolder my cluster the temperature was blank also red ice sign was on couldnt lock the car. after resoldering the cluster alls well again

@ntelas thank you for the link. I have reviewed it and it looks like that you did not resolve the issue. It disappeared itself.

@javfocus could you please tell me if you have resolved it? If yes, please let me know how?

My case is a bit strange. First the battery discharge overnight. I have replaced the battery but the issue was not resolved. I have checked the alternator voltage and the output was over 17v. Alternator was replaced and now is fine but when I checked the fault codes I have found U1900 and the airbag/ice/handbrake light/seat belt warnings are on and radio stopped working. It happens just when I am trying to read the fault codes. Do you have any ideas?
