Anyone else has this issue?

2015 Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost zetec s, sudenly started spluttering and oil like flickering on / off also loud wineing / wind noise on acceleration. Oil is fine also coming up no faults

STOP - SWITCH OFF - DO NOT START THE ENGINE.

The oil light is for pressure not for how much. If the light is flickering on the oil pressure is low, probably a blocked strainer filter in the sump

Thanks for your reply, is it easy to fix or ?

I fear if you have a loud whining noise from your engine it may already be too late to save it

It is a major issue, and could mean a new engine. Do not restart the engine, you need it looked at by a Ford dealer, or a garage with knowledge of the 1.0 ecoboost engine.

What mileage has it got, and when was it last fully serviced ?

Thanks for your help 🙂

It has 51, 000 and full service 2 month ago from the garage i bought it from

Then you have at least a 3 month warranty. Ring them in the morning and tell them they need to come and get it. Do not drive it.

From what you have said it is very likely the engine has probably already suffered too much damage to be saved. Once oil pressure drops you only have a few minutes before major damage is done.

There have been other posts on here about this. The rubber timing belt running in oil decays and the granules of rubber block the oil strainer. As said above the oil pressure light does not relate to how much oil is in the engine, it relates to whether or not the oil is being pushed around the vital parts of the engine. Every second the engine is run with the oil pressure light on is causing damage. Alas many people have destroyed their engine by checking the dipstick and then carry on driving thinking it must be a sensor fault and not understanding the seriousness.

Cleaning the strainer is relatively easy but sorting out the timing belt is a major job on this complicated engine. But as said above, it might be beyond that now. I feel sorry for you but I hope others read this and remember what has been said so if their oil light comes on they know what it means

Spoke to garage today warenty has just expired 😞 so hopfully it has not caused any engine damage, the problems only started near my house so hasnt been drove far going tho get a new oil pump put in see what happens

Replacing the oil pump on the ecoboost engine is not a 5 minute job. It will also require the oil pump wet belt to be replaced and you need the sump oil strainer cleaned.

The front exhaust section has to be removed and quite a lot of other items have to be disconnected. This is not a job for any mechanic who is not trained to work on the ecoboost.

Legally a VAT registered garage have to cover major failings of car parts for a full 6 months from the date of sale even though they only provide a 3 month waranty. Speak to your local trading standards and they will confirm that you still have a claim if it turns out to be a major engine failure.

There might not be anything wrong with the oil pump. It might be “fixed” just by cleaning rubber granules out of the oil strainer in the sump. But there might be future problems if the rubber timing belt is decaying. This engine is a very complex engine compared to some others. Over the years we have benefitted from engine technology getting more advanced, more power, less fuel used, less emissions but when something goes wrong it’s ten times as bad.

This gives some details of the common issue https://ystradservicecentre.com/blog/f/ford-10l-ecoboost-oil-pressure-issues. The more people made aware of this issue the better, to reduce the suffering of other owners
