Hello i have noticed that my exhaust has started poping when I take my foot off the accelerator it drives fine I only noticed as I was reversing and I took my foot off the accelerator I heard the exhaust poping, does anyone know what this problem could be?

Hi,

if you haven't noticed a cloud of white smoke on start up or an increase in fuel consumption then its not likely to be a fuel injector problem which would cause over fuelling,

its most likely your catalytic converter could be fractured; causing a bypass of flammable vapours which are accumulating and igniting inside the exhaust pipe post catalyst, or there is an exhaust leak before the cat.

 

Hello thank you for your reply! Would I be able to tell this from looking under the car? It drives fine it does sound abit loud on start up when cold but the exhaust does not sound loud when you drive it’s just like when you rev the engine and take your foot off the accelerator you hear the pops coming from the exhaust I only notice it when I am idiling would I need to replace the catalic converter?

Could be a small crack in the flexi joint.
