Low oil pressure

Featured Replies

Hi,

im hoping someone can offer me some advise here. I have a 59 plate fiesta 1.4 petrol (85k miles)

last week I replaced the oil and oil filter. Since these have been change I have have a slight issue.

when the car is started from cold it pops up low oil pressure. And has the oil light on. However if I turn the car off and back on again this warning light stays off.

when I look in the oil filler cap it’s clear the oil is circulating around the engine. And it does effect the way the car drives. The engine sounds really sweet.

is it possible I have some how managed to buy a bad oil filter?

I would be really grateful if anyone can offer some advise.

I’m not familiar with this engine. Is it a metal oil filter can or just a paper element you fit. Perhaps an all in one oil filter can has a valve in it to stop it emptying/draining away when you park. I don’t know for sure

Have you bought the right grade of oil? An incorrect filter is a possibility as some have valves in.

Thank you for your reply’s.

The oil is correct and the oil filter is the standard can filter. Like for like replacement from euro car parts.

im stumped to be honest. I think I might replace the oil filter again with a Bosch filter and see if that changes anything.

I’ve googled the s@#t out of it and can not find the answer. Lol.

Is the oil filter screwed on tight enough?

Fit the Bosch filter ASAP

thank for your help.

im going to replace the oil filter tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.

I really hope it does.  I don’t have the time for trying to sort this and can not afford to get it into a garage. Just stuck in limbo with it.

Hi, just though it would update you as I think other people may have had similar issues.

I decided to put a can of oil/ engine flush into the car, run it then drain the oil again and replace the oil and filter.

when the oil was removed (only changed oil 30 miles ago) there was a good amount of grit/ buildup in the oil.

replaced the oil and filter. Started the car. The oil light popped up twice with the message low oil pressure. Then the light and warning disappeared.

so far the car has been running for 30 min with no warning light on. So I’m. It sure if it was a bit of gunk or the faulty oil filter…… or possibly luck that the light is not on and may return next time I start the car

The flushing detergent will have dislodged a small quantity of the inevitable sooty sludge in the engine. It usually needs a couple of hunderd miles to work completely, the problem being that if the engine is really sludged up, it can do more harm than good. A new filter will probably have cured the problem. As it was empty when fitted, it will have needed to fill when the engine started so there is your low oil pressure warning.  Should be ok now.

Yes I tend to side with this argument too. That bit of build-up in the corner of the engine that would happily sit there and never touch any critical components has now been disturbed and flushing round the engine.

To be honest I agree with you too. However the oil filter is side mounted so filling the can up can not be done.

At the moment I’m just glad the warning light is off. The oil change was around 3000 miles over due as it’s usually changed annually. But the car has been stood for around 3 months. But never mind it may be a temp fix or bodged fix but at the moment it’s working.

Thanks for the advise.
