Tyre replacement and TPMS sensors

Featured Replies

Focus ST-Line 2- Reg 1.5 ecoblue.

I'm reading a lot of confusing info/opinions on t-internet about tyre replacement and TPMS sensors, exacerbated by what I suspect is a bit of upselling by certain tyre retailers.

My usual tyre replacement (non-TPMS) is new tyre, new valve & balance - OK so far.

But with TPMS sensors is it still as simple as that? Or more complex - and more expensive!

Thanks - Richard

I had a new tyre last week. Price as is common says includes balance and valve. As I have tpms I asked the bloke if they touch the valve. He says if there is tpms they only touch the valve if I pay extra for new sensor.  This is what I expected. But I think the pricing statement should be clearer. Price includes balance and includes valve as long as you don’t have tpms

Ps, I have had 3 tyres replaced on this car without new sensors and had no problems

When I went to get 4 new tyres fitted at ATS a few months ago, I asked the fitter to put one of the tyres on a new alloy, to replace a damaged one. I mentioned that TPMS was fitted but the fitter wasn't bothered and just swapped the sensor over to the new alloy for no extra charge.

Thanks for your replies, seems I don't have a problem - and also seems like I don't need to worry about having valves replaced as a matter of course.

Wherever there’s progress, there’s bound to be extra expense.

TPMS only last up to 10 years before needing to be replaced.
