Are Haynes manuals still relevant

Featured Replies

Trying to track down the equivalent spec of power steering fluid for an 03 1.4 tdci fiesta, and the spec in the Haynes says

WSA M2C 57 A Ford spec.

Out of date, but unable to find a fluid with its own spec covering this.

Euro carparts website is telling me, use an atf but i am very hesitant to do this.

Is there any other workshop manual other than Youtube crawling.

Cheers

Richard

When your 2003 Fiesta was built the brake fluid was DOT3. This has now been replaced with DOT4 hence the out of date Ford spec.

Any brake fluid of DOT4 standard can be used in your car, it is just a better spec, higher operating temprature and absorbs less water than the old DOT3

Power steering fluid is not brake fluid but Comma PSF 1 will be compatible with whatever is in there already.

Just had a reply from Vospers, who say that WSS-M2C938-A now supercedes the original spec psf.

Thanks

Haynes manuals are a good general guide with older fiestas, but when looking for fluids they can be out of date. I normally use forums and reg plate part finders like euro car parts as well as a bit of good old fashioned common sense 🙂

I look through them, but its the old  specifications and matching them to newer replacements. Not always evident and clear

I wouldn't be without my Haynes manuals, it was the first thing I bought after my van. Sometimes they aren't perfect in every detail (like knowing what bulb is in the hi-level brake light) but despite that, they're incredibly useful, especially if used alongside the Internet for things like the latest oil specifications.
