Keyless entry - Car will not start!

Featured Replies

My Mk8 2018 Fiesta ST3 will not start.  When I depress the clutch and attempt to start the vehicle it is completely silent and nothing happens and the engine will not start.  The green light is flashing on the start button, but the electrics are not functioning with the exception of the lights and the keyless locking.  The car will therefore not start up and the dash display and the central screen are dark and do not illuminate.  I have also tried putting the passive key in the centre console as described in the manual without success.  This is the first fault the car has suffered in 3.5 years of ownership - it has been very reliable.

The car battery has been fully charged and the battery replaced in the key in the event these were causing the problem and so that these can be eliminated as potential faults.  The second key also does not start the car.

Has anybody else experienced this fault and if so how was it resolved?

My car is booked in to my Ford dealer but the earliest they can look at it is in about 10 days time.  I am desperate for a fix beforehand and would appreciate other owners experience if this has occurred to anyone else and can share what the fault might be and how it can be fixed.

Thanks in advance.

Can you use any of the radio  functions or do these not wake up either?

I had the battery tested and it was fine. After I took the battery out I had read in the past that disconnecting the battery cures lots of electrical problems like unplugging and rebooting your pc, and I suspected it might help my car. When I reconnected the battery it started first time 😀

Hello Martin, there seems to be a bit of an issue going on at the moment with battery terminals not clamping down hard on the battery post. I don't if it's a problem with the battery post being a little undersize or that the clamp is not closing up and gripping the post tightly, but it causes a high resistance connection. Some cars car go from fully working to totally dead in a few seconds, and others like yours have very limited electrical power.

If it happens again I would disconnect both battery leads, clean the posts up. When putting the clamps back on make sure to push them hard down to ensure they are fully on before tighting the clamps.

Yes, I've had similar problems in the past. On one occasion a brand new car "died" completely. On lifting the bonnet I found the earth lead clamp had not been tightened at all! (In case @anoncomes along - yes, it was a Rover!😃)

I dont think my issues were about poor connections to the battery posts.

I suspect the faults were corrected by the action of disconnecting the battery to create a reboot and a reset of the electrics.
