Jeremy.T
Hi guys. New to the community. I recently bought my Focus mk4 1.0 ecoboost. Being paranoid about the timing belt in oilbath, I have been changing my oil strictly every 10.000km. Recently I heard that the Ecoboost engines in the Mk4 have replaced the belt with a chain. Is this true? Havent been able to find my clarification on the web. Cheers
JW1982
The Focus Mk4 does indeed have a new (totally revised) version of the 1.0 ECOboost. The new 1.0 ECOboost has a timing chain between the crankshaft and the camshafts. However there is still a wetbelt between the crankshaft and the oil pump (and balance shaft on the automatic transmission version).
Andyr55
If you have the Ford Pass app there is an oil life monitor. (Nb I do a low mileage)

Weird how no one have made an article about it or anything. Its hard to find any source of this except the forum

However I dont know if you should follow that or the 10-15.000km oil change rule
unofix
It's much cheaper to replace the oil and filter more often, than it is to replace the engine !!

I think the first thing I saw was an earlier post on here by Wilco ( @JW1982 ) as above.
Jeremy.T
Is there any way to see the chain without taking apart the engine?
isetta
I don’t have that engine but I too would be kind of thinking I want to see it with my own eyes. I don’t know the layout. The only possibility I am thinking is in the oil filler with a dentist mirror or small camera. But I don’t know if that is possible at all

Tizer
For anyone else reading this with the 1.5 petrol engine, the 1.5 3 cylinder Dragon engine is the same, large chain and small wet belt with no change interval specified in the service schedule, although the manual version has a Balancer Shaft as well as the Automatic.
proch
It seems to me that this new engine ecoboost 1.0 B7DA, B3DA is a NASA secret, or the Pentagon banned it...? I couldn't find a single photo of the timing analysis anywhere. Youtube also failed. Only wet belt everywhere...
Ecosport2019
It is on workshop applications I checked the other day.
proch
So I was relieved...I was afraid this four years old engine is so good, that this nobody has ever did not repair...
