Fiesta right hand side "dead"

Featured Replies

Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

I just got a fiesta (bought privately). Everything was fine but mysteriously this morning the drivers side everything stopped working.

Neither mirror unfolds, RH door doesnt lock (front or rear), RH elec window not working, RH mirror heater not working.

The loom to the front right door was obviously in a bad way, somone has attacked it with a screwdriver and then used a zip tie to hold it back together, so the boot wasnt on properly and the connectors look corroded.

To me it also looks as if the whole loom has come apart at some point, but it could just be like that from factory. I expected it to have proper loom tape everywhere.

So, has anyone experienced this?

And.. can anyoen take a pic of the loom up above the pedals so i can compare the general look of it all. Cheers.

Sounds like some proper terminating of the wires will help. There is only one fault as you lost a lot of circuits at once.  It will be an open circuit  As you haven't told us anything about the car, I'm afraid you will be waiting for help. Hint: year and model might be useful.

Hi cheers for the response. Youre right. should have said its a 14 plate Zetec. Auto box.

I managed to get out there today and had another look at that door loom connector. I got it appart and noticed some green corrosion in there.

So I used some electrical contact cleaner on it and gave it a light clean with a wire brush. All back together and it seems to be working again. Not sure how long itll last but at-least its solved for now.

Lots of circuits dying at once  are almost always caused by bad connections. A good scrub often works wonders. Good stuff!

The clean i gave it lasted till yesterday. whats that.. a couple of weeks.. anyway the door is not working again.

I have some pics and questions..

Can i take the connectors appart to clean them properly? do i need to?

The pics show the connector in question.
I have wrapped the loom with the fabric loom tape to protect it where it goes through the body as it was getting scraped.
The blue parts of the connector seem to be housing some corrosion and also the back of the black connector on the door side.

While i was there i tested the car side connector with a multimeter.

getting 12v from the places i expected to.

and i noticed the speaker is working but that likley has its own + and - connections.

Yeah, all pretty grubby.

I would smear copaslip grease over the socket slots and plug the plug in and out ten times or so until I had decent contact and a little protection.

You'd be better with Vaseline.

Copaslip may be conductive which wouldn't help. Vaseline is perfect for the job and will protect against further corrosion.

No. It won't. The conductivity of the copaslip is deliberate as it will be needed to encourage conduction and break down corrosion products by electrolytic action. The use of Vaseline in this application is  unquantifiably

STUPID.
