heated screen partial heating on the left side

Featured Replies

I think my replacement screen on the mk2.5 is faulty - the right (drivers) worked fast and fully, the left was slow with a few strips that got wider until one bit was 2 " wide then a few other strips...bit irritated its the first time its been used since replacement but that was about 2 years ago - can it be a connection issue or was it faulty at birth - what come back do I have with auto glass - time-limit ?

Auto glass fit utter trash - the one they fitted in my main car is missing features and doesn't fit... I never realised - ONLY fit genuine manu screens 61500397_ScreenIMG_5555.thumb.JPG.3f6775638944c5f5ef1a4fd51efa0ada.JPG

It'll probably need a replacement. If it wasn't heating an entire side then that might be a connection issue, but missing strips suggests faulty wiring inside the glass. If it was fitted by Autoglass, their website suggests a lifetime guarantee.

I agree it is faulty if it in strips like that. On my previous fiesta the original screen did this when about 5 years old and got worse as time went on.

thanks guys - that's great news thanks for that link erictcleric

Our quality & guarantee

We offer a lifetime guarantee on our vehicle glasswork (both the parts we fit and our repair and installation workmanship) for as long as you own your vehicle.

Let us know if you claim on the lifetime guarantee.  Mine is doing the same, fitted by Autoglass a few years ago and gradually getting worse.  I haven't used the heated screen for a while but may want to get them to honor their promise at some stage.

she doesn't use it - it was literally the first time its been switched it - I filled out the online rant form last night

I think the one on my merc has popped its round the edge heater element - but the electrics on a merc are designed to be unreliable who knows

new screen fitted today FOC

tested it out. edges 13.5C both sides, multiple bits of the middle section (on both sides) 22C inside 5 mins - he mentioned the wire connections at the screen on the left hand side were a bit wobbly

I seem to have a new issue with the replacement

in 5 roads within 1 mile of my home I just counted 9 broken street lights - and that matters... because I can't see where I'm going with the "the Stars in their eye's Ford heated dazzle defrost system",

Do you think it possible they have RHD and LHD iterations for the heating elements in heated screens ? I was driving the other day mentioning I can't see where we are going, so she screams get out if you can't see you old git, and she took over - then she spent the next 2 miles home complaining multiple times she could see out the passenger side perfectly well, but now can't out of the drivers side. And indeed its exactly how the car is now. From the passenger side you can see easily and not get dazzled, but you can see bugger all on the side that matters.

Just been out last night and you can't see anything at all, at one point I wondered if the headlights were even on, cleaned the screen and the lights before going back - makes no difference at all ???

thanks, I get my night vision isn't what it was - but she is 14 years younger and can't believe you can see out any more either

it is easy to see from the passenger side - we both agree on that - its light and day difference, maybe the angle of the element is just designed for LHD and we can go to hell

I wonder how much LEDs is part of it, where I am 9 out of 10 cars are manu fit laser etching nighmares - Merc, SEAT, VW, Nissan are really BIG offenders.  So all the poor with the wrong lamp units have gone LED 1200 watt blingtastic to combat the lease cars, and its not much fun out there....

Could i just add to the glasses bit, some transitions lenses dont work behind some screens. Transitions+ work with all and oncoming headlights, and the speed at which they react does not affect your vision even in bright sunlight, I dont know how i managed before i had these. I bought mine from one of these online supply places as specsavers etc wanted extortionate money, i went to Glasses Direct, other suppliers are available

  • 2 weeks later...

Screen was replaced FOC without any quibble. Great customer service.

Thing is, we haven't had any frost since it was done so not 100% certain it will work 🤣
