SpecialistPea
After one of my alloys was over tightened, the locking nut key has disintegrated (the wavy patterned part that slots into the nut). I have the code and spoke to Ford and it is about £70 and a few weeks wait while it comes from Germany. My query is, are all the keys the same? If so any recommendations on where to get one (cheaper/quicker than Ford? Or does anyone have a spare they want to sell or send me? Or do I need to get an specific one for my nuts? Its for a Fiesta Metal 2012 with the 17" alloy, the wheels are all fitted to the car currently. Thinking they would all be the same, I did buy a set from the bay, but in error bought a set for the standard Fiesta which must have the 15" or 16" as the "key" is smaller, the wavy pattern is also fairly different which has made me wonder if their is a number of different "keys". (the key came with 4 nuts so if anyone needs some...)
anon
No, they are not all the same. Best thing to do is take the car to Kwik fit (!) As they deal with this problem a lot, they can loosen them off enough for you to replace them with standard bolts for the time being. TomsFocus
The keys are not all the same. That would render them pointless for security... Like every house in an estate having the same front door key. Cheapest option is to buy a full set of used locking nuts with a good key, but they need to be correct of course. There are a few different types of nut depending on year but a 2012 is probably using global nuts.
Frembrit
Not sure, but you might be able to order a replacement key from McGard directly from here (don't know if the Ford code is the same as McGards)
anon
They will certainly be able to cross reference them to the Ford number.
SpecialistPea
Thanks for the replies, The McGard seems to recognise the code and is 18 euros which seems pretty good. I will get one ordered!
unofix
Just as a laugh, a bit of trivia - ALL Ford Crown Vic police cars in America have the SAME key !!!! and when the police are finished with the car they mostly get used as a Taxi - At least if you loose your key you can borrow one off a mate 🤣 Or get a key for your police car from eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/1284x-key-Ford-Fleet-Key-Pentesting-Crown-Victoria-Police-Cruiser-Taxi-/254325214990?_ul=IL

Once you do get them off, throw them in the bin and fit regular nuts. It's much easier to steal the whole car than just the wheels anyway. Most alloys have little value on the second hand market, the tyres are usually worth more.
