Powertrain Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2015 Fiesta, low mileage.  On Saturday the powertrain warning light came on and the message on my screen was "Engine Service Required" - the car had a full service  in January 2021.  The car went into limp mode, and the accelerator felt "heavy" for want of a better word.  Thankfully I wasn't far from home.  I went back out a little while later and the car started up, no warning light and she drove fine (I only went round the block).  My neighbour used his diagnostic machine (I want to day OBDII) and there were no codes, new, stored, pending or otherwise.

The car is going to my mechanic on Wednesday, but just wondered if anyone has had this issue and what the reason was - appreciate reasons will differ.

Hello Jayne, your neighbours code reader is probably of the generic/universal type and these often do not pick up Ford specific DTC's.

You need a laptop with FORScan software to stand the best chance of getting the DTC if it has been stored. When a car has been in limp mode it is rare for the code not to have been stored. Without a DTC and the fault not currently present there is almost zero chance of finding the cause.

Thanks for replying.  He did say it may not pick any codes up, worth a go though.  Hopefully on Wednesday once my mechanic has had it up on his machine I'll know more
