C Max BCM failure

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This is probably my first post so please bear with me, I'm not looking for advice but just to see if anyone else has had similar problems.

I have a 2015 C max 2.0tdci auto that we bought as an ex demo at 800 miles and 18 months old. It broke down two days later with a non start problem that the selling dealer traced to a water leak on the roof aerial allowing water ingress down the wiring loom into the module in the roof. They replaced the module and gave us the car back.

In hindsight I should have rejected the car but as I was recovering from chemo I wasn't in a good place.

About 12 months later we had a similar problem, the car refused to lock or unlock and intermittent non start. We took the car to a different Ford dealer who found that the fault was the remote locking receiver in the roof. The failure was caused by the first dealer replacing the failed module but didn't cure the cause of the failure which was the leaking roof aerial. The second dealer had to replace the module, reseal the aerial and make up a fresh loom due to corrosion at a cost of £900 although the selling dealer did contribute £300 towards the cost.

A few weeks later the car suddenly stopped on the motorway with a complete loss of power, luckily there was a hard shoulder and light traffic otherwise the entire family could have been wiped out. The car was recovered back to the repairing dealer who found that the main multi plug had come out of the BCM under the O/S/F seat as one of the retaining clips was broken. They refitted the connector and 'hot glued' it back in and returned the car to us without charge but were adamant that they had not touched the module during the last repair. Through the pandemic we didn't use the car very much but recently I felt that the brakes were not working correctly.

Some months later the brakes become even more unusual but then the wipers went crazy and the windows failed to work so we returned the car to the dealer. They kept it for nearly five weeks as the BCM module had failed, causing the wiper problem, but on completion found a second problem with the ABS module. The module was removed and sent for repair, refitted and tested. That repair cost another £1600.

Having now driven the car since the repair I've found that the auto box is smoother, the delay in selecting reverse is reduced, the brakes are softer, the fuel consumption has gone from 38mpg to 43mpg and the car feels totally different.

Has anyone else had a problem with the BCM and ABS modules?

Regards

Peter Knill

There are problems with water and BCM here on a daily bases, all though normally due to problems with water from the screen-wash pump. The ABS modules are not so common, probably only one mentioned on here every other week.

Once water has found it's way in to the wiring harness you are living on borrowed time. The only cure is a new harness, new connectors and new modules. I think I would be looking to move it on to "we buy any wreck.com" before you get the next big bill.
