Ford Fiesta VII Automatic Gear Oil?

Featured Replies

Getting some conflicting information on whether or not the Mk. VII (8) has gear oil and/or fluid. It might help answer an earlier post I made about the automatic gearbox struggling in the cold. It may well be, if there is oil, that it needs changed. If not, is it entirely electrically driven and why would the cold affect it that way?

If it does have oil, can you do it yourself or does it need to go into a garage?

Tricky one this, you must do research.

Your transmission is a 6F15, same as mine. Also fitted to the Ecosport 1.0 Auto, but that changed fluid to Mercon ULV around this time.

Mine is a 2017 Focus and has Mercon LV

Yours is 2018 so is it Mercon LV or ULV??

It's very important that you don't mix, either way.

There should be a label in top of the gearbox showing part number and oil spec.

Whatever is says on there, use that oil. DON'T use any other oil

These boxes are supposedly "sealed for life" but our friends over the pond are recommending changing at 30,000 miles as the filter is unchangeable

I've decided it's going into the garage, although it can't be seen until the 7th December. Hopefully the car won't disintigrate until then, although nothing on this particular Ford would surprise me. The joys of 2nd hand car ownership. It is an approved Ford dealer it's been taken to and there is an extended warranty, but whether that covers anything that may be wrong with the transmission is debateable at the moment. Thanks for the help, but I'm no mechanic or that way minded. I can change engine oil, oil filter and tyres (and even that's almost extinct since they use those stupid puncture repair kits now!)

If I had the money I'd own a classic or at least a car with far less things to go wrong!

Your other post is the ST-Line X transmission post?

Please explain exactly what is happening
