Car cover

Featured Replies

Hi does any body no where I can get a Ford Fiesta st line x m8 car cover for my pride and joy unfortunately it as to stop out side in our fantastic British weather I what one that fits exact and not one I have to chase down the road every morning can any body help to stop my loving esta getting wet and frost bite ❄️☃️🌧

Even if you buy one, I can guarantee after a few times you'll get fed up having to fit it and uncover it  - and where will you store a soaking wet plastic sheet?

Even the ones that cover the screen are a pain to store when you take them off - and with a heated screen not worth the effort.

Especially when the water on the plastic sheet has frozen solid.

Yes, I've tried these over the years and come to the conclusion that for a car that's going to be used fairly regularly, they're more trouble than they're worth. Another issue is, the inside needs to be scrupulously clean and free of grit otherwise you can get scratches on your paint when you take it off.

I bought a plastic screen cover one winter.   Used it three times before it went in the bin.

Yeah I agree don't bother, if you want a good way of scratching your paintwork then a cover is the way to go.

Try you hardest to keep it clean but you'll always get some grit in it, which will just be ground into the paint when the wind is blowing.

Event with a tight fitting one the wind will make it move about a bit.

Trying to remove it with even a slight breeze can be a real pain too, and as others have suggested storing it is also a problem.

I've kept my cars outside on my driveway in all weathers for years and never had any problems. I just clean them carefully and wax them 3 times a year.

Had an MR2 for 10 years and paintwork was like new when I sold it.

If you are using the car regularly, you will also scratch the paint work, albeit finely, each time you put it on and off.  I would just either wax it, or for longevity, ceramic coat it.

Greta would be pleased that it wasn't a single use plastic.🙂

Don't even bother buying, like others have said 😳 They can wreck the paintwork, I purchased a full cover and our car was covered over for only two months, only removed the cover to turn over the engine and get everything hot, I then wound down all the windows & opened all doors to allow all the hot air to vent out, then I spotted it!!! 🤨 and spotted more!!! 🤨 and even more!!! 😭..........When the cover had been moving in the wind, unbeknown to me the moving of the cover had been brushing on the paintwork, causing massive areas which was now a matt effect, it was really bad on the bonnet & roof, the wheel arches also had been rubbed, I was gutted and it took me a several days to get all the matt effect off the paintwork, had to use 2000 grade wet & dry paper to even out the bad matting, then the polishing had to be done.

I ripped up the car cover in a fit of rage 🤬 🤬

If you do buy a cover, then only use it if the car is garaged and not out in the open.

I tried one of the windscreen covers last year (no heated screen on the Golf) and it was utterly useless...  Was impossible to get tight across the screen and kept dropping down when heavy with damp or blowing about in wind.  Complete waste of time and I wouldn't have wanted to use it on something with decent paintwork.

I have used a windscreen cover to help stop it from frosting over, it worked quite well, held on by magnets at edges so didn't come off in wind. You had be careful in putting it on or off with magnets scratching paint. I have no experience with full car covers though, I'd imagine if they are not taught they could flap about and scratch/damage paintwork. I have certainly heard 'car bras' do more damage than save on stone chips.

Absolutely correct.A cover is just not recommend, they can do a lot of damage to paint work, very fine scratches, from the material picking up grit contaminates(I have had this happen).Dust, dirt is easy to hose down, scratches are not.Save your money. Both my vehicles are ceramic coated, one was done professionally, the other one I did.The guy who did my coating on our Honda said do not bother with a cover, they do to much damage.

Cheers for that 🍺🍺i think I’ll build 🔨 a car port it will be cheaper and have some change for some clobber 👍👍

Cars are waterproof (mostly), they don't get any wetter standing still than they do when they are moving. How many car covers do you see on parked cars when you are travelling around? It'll be fine.🙂

And you really need air to get to your car otherwise moisture and water in general is going to linger, then corrosion takes over

The cars I have seen with covers are generally cars that for whatever reason are not required for 12 months or so
