Battery draining

Featured Replies

I realise that this is a common issue on some Fiestas, so I guess there is a wealth of knowledge as how to fix the issue

I have a 2014 Fiesta 1 litre Ecoboost Titanium X that is flattening the battery overnight enough that she will not start. The battery is new and the charging system OK. Based upon the fact that residual battery drain after everything closes down should I believe be about 35mA then could this be the problem?

Locking the car leaves the residual battery current at 2 amps. This drops to 600-700mA after ten minutes as systems close down, and eventually to 150mA where it seems to remain although it is not very stable. Pulling fuses in both the glove compartment and engine bay fuse boxes proves inconclussive. There is more waking up stuff and battery current increases, than a decrease to the magic 35mA.  So what is left on (hooked to the battery) when the Fiesta finally falls asleep? The key receiver and the alternator I suspect and neither of those would I expect to pull 150mA.

In the winter I guess the battery never gets a full charge. Lights and heater on, short trips to the shops sees a partially charged battery at the end of the day. But even then a further 150mA drain for 8 hours (1.2Ah) is hardly much for a 65Ah battery even if it is partially charged.

I wonder what others have found regarding this annoying issue and importantly the eventual solutions please.

Hi

If you wanted to disconnect the alternator, started motor from the battery you can do so really easy see my pic

Ignoring how the batt post terminal block is mounted in my picture it is the same one as fitted to your car. The stud with the red blob round it is the connection for the cable that connects the alternator, startermotor to the battery.
