USB won't play through cigarette lighter FF 2011

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I am new here since I've bought my first Ford Fiesta just yesterday. My Fiesta produced in 2011 and it doesn't have USB socket, so I bought USB socket that runs through the cigarette lighter but it won't play the music. It definitely has power since it shows the clock and some additional stuff but I don't know how to run the USB, I tried every function rom RADIO to AUX mode....any help?

Thank you in advance

The 12v socket (cigar lighter) does not stream music at all. Putting a USB socket adapter in does t change that unfortunately. It supplies power only.

It's a bit like plugging it into a mains socket at home and expecting it to play music through your headphones all of a sudden lol.

I think I said it nicer 🤣🤣

You will have  to have a cable from phone headphone socket to the 3.5mm jack socket aux input by the gear lever. It should have one of those.

provided of course he has an old mobile phone that has a headphone socket !!!

@igorFF2011 I've just posted about this too as I recently bought a 2011 Fiesta and had the same issue. I replaced the blown fuse-20A blue JCASE fuse on the bottom row. The Ford manual wasn't updated. Works fine now. Hope this helps.

Hi @SkyCaptain the original poster bought a 12V to 5V USB adapter for his cigar lighter socket, and then wanted to play music through it.

And I'd like my CD player to dispense £20 notes, and I've as much chance as he has of getting music out of it.

Seriously, though, they do say there is no such thing as a stupid question, though this is testing that premise. Please don't roast him too much.

Your Fiesta is a Pre facelift, when the face changed in late 2012 to the gaping mouth front bumper, then the electrics inside also changed.

Basically, you have a box behind the buttons with the CD slot in it. This is connected to a module that is connected to the 3.5mm stereo jack mounted on the square panel next to your 12V power socket.

On later cars, a different main box, wired differently, connected to a different module that controls the 3.5mm and USB socket next to the 12V socket. SO it's a different radio, different Bluetooth moduel and different screen that is all connected with different plugs. It's not an easy job.

The Thing you bought with 12V plug and USB socket will provide 5V power to charge your phone. If you have a 3.5mm output for headphones, or an adapter to your charging port for headphones, you can get cables with this plug on one end and the 3.5mm on the other. Plug this is and select AUX and you should see Line-In displayed and you can then play music from your phone.

I hope that helps.
