Ford focus 1.6tdci temp problem

Hi there i wonder if anyone else have a problem with the engine temp gauging up and down in the winter the temp outside is -8c and the engine temp keeps jumping from 70c to under 60c changed the termostat but it didnt make any different. And what does this button do i cant find in manual

Think it might be for the emergency parachute deployment, it only works if you're going faster than 99MPH 🤨

 

If -8c isn't a typo (guessing you're not in UK!) then the 1.6 TDCi will really struggle to maintain coolant temp in that as they're so thermally efficient.  Keeping the heater off might help, but that's not ideal I know.

The left hand button is for the heated windscreen.  Right hand for heated rear screen.

How about adding a cardboard blocking the wind going into the radiator would that work?

No.  There's no flow through the radiator while the thermostat is closed anyway.

Ok so adding more glycol will increase the boiliing point

Seems like adding 20% more glycol etc 70% glycol rest water solved the problem
