Rear shocks replaced and now suspension feels wrong

Featured Replies

Hi,

Please be kind I'm not mechanically minded lol

I had the rear shocks replaced on my 2011 Fiesta today and now it just doesn't feel 'right'. Going over any slight bump it feels really bouncy and it's quite an uncomfortable drive... Even my 10yr old commented how 'bouncy' it felt when I picked her up from school.

Is this normal and should I give them time to settle or is there a further issue do you think?

The shocks were replaced on the  recommendation of the garage who were investigating a knocking noise at the rear (knocking noise still remains).

Thank you

No it's not normal, shock absorbers don't 'settle in' otherwise all brand new cars would be driving round like kangaroos !!

Sounds like they have fitted the wrong shock absorbers. There are many different versions for the Fiesta, depends of the engine, for example petrol of diesel, also what version it is like Titanium or ST.

If it is bouncy it will affect its braking distance as the wheels will not be making proper contact with the road.

Replacement shock absorbers are wrong spec for vehicle.

Get garage to fit correct spec shock absorbers or re-fit the old one's (as that obviously wasn't the issue)

If they have wrongly diagnosed knock issue, they should send shocks back and not charge you, it's not your fault they've wrongly diagnosed.

If there's a knock on the back, first thing to check is the exhaust fully secure??
