Mk4 Sensor blocked fog

Featured Replies

For 2nd maybe 3rd time in over 2 years I got the clean windscreen camera ,pre collision not on message today. Heavy fog here this morning. Car was washed yesterday so I don’t think it actually needs cleaned. If the message is still there later I’ll need to wash it. Where is the actual sensor? Has anyone else had this on a foggy day? Difference from 1st time i had this warning it was telling me then to clean the radar on front grille ! That’s progress I guess.

I’ve had the camera low visibility warning in fog on my fiesta and focus.

It's in that box behind the interior mirror, which is normally kept clean because it is in the wiper swept area.

I suppose if the interior of the car had a lot of condensation too them maybe that could effect things but I thought the camera was stuck to the windscreen with a sticky pad.

The car is not intelligent enough to know what is blocking its visibility. But if it can’t see enough of the edge of the road or lines it will throw that message. It’s basically saying it can’t see well enough.

I think in fog the droplets constantly form on the screen in front of the camera. I often have to use wipers in fog when the car is cold. I usually find once everything has warmed up a bit it shuts up. But driving through thick fog I doubt it can do much anyway.

I’ve been back out and it’s cleared up itself. Must’ve been the fog. The app is telling me to clean the front grille! You’d think they could have instructions for those of us that don’t have a radar. Probably the majority of focus . You only fall for the cleaning a bit of hollow plastic once..

I’ve had not any condensation since I turned on the auto climate control! Can’t believe I spent almost 2 year faffing about with the blowers etc

btw Alexp , you’re right auto 2 works perfectly. (You might not remember the thread ) up or down a couple of degrees is all that’s required. Even in heavy rain etc.

@Alex.S when those photos were taken the temperature was only 1c and with it being foggy the relative humidity would have been near 100%. Under these conditions the moisture in the air will keep condensing on the windscreen until the windscreen is hot enough for the moisture not to dew out.

As @alexp999 said it is best to flip the wipers on frequently until things warm up. I also normally use the Auto setting on my climate control, but instead I direct it to the windscreen instead in these conditions.

Another related thing about light fog in these cars is that I have found that the Auto Headlights do not always turn on and I have to turn them on manually.

The auto headlights not coming on in the fog is a pain , was dark when I was out earlier so both fog lights on no bother. I see other cars , all makes models driving in the fog without fog lights on due to having to manually switch headlights on.  Very 21st century problem..

Auto climate will direct itself to the windscreen in low temps. It also turns the heated screen on itself. You won’t see the light for it lit up but you can see the elements come on and clear the screen.

Heated screen light comes on in mine if it’s cold, usually turned straight off as it’s already done the job due to the remote engine start. Heated drivers seat on at 3 bars.  Doesn’t start heating though until I’m in the car, 3 bars is far too hot for anybody. Lease ends in October 2022 , ordering next one start of July , depends on lead times but I think this lease will be extended , absolutely no complaints from me.
