Ford focus 1.8tdci 2009 engine knocking/ticking?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help in advance. Similar to older threads I have a focus and it's making a nasty sound...

Up to date on servicing, cambelt done 50k miles/3 years ago, oil and filter done 3 months ago, oil level OK. All injectors previously replaced.

Not sure what's happening! What do you think? I'm not too bad with basic car stuff but no clue here.

FYI, getting a garage to look in a few days.

I think after research top contenders are:

- injector issue

- timing belt issue

Really difficult to tell. It kind of sounded to me like it was only running on 3 cylinders when you reved it.   Does if fell like power is normal when you drive it?

In case you don’t know, it has two timing belts, a wet one at the bottom and a dry one at the top.

Hi, yeah hard to hear I think. No loss of power at all when driving and pulling is fine. There's a separate glow plug issue when it's cold it definitely does feel like it's on 3 cylinders for the first few minutes but then sorts itself out.

Just when it's warmed up it now sounds awful.

And yeah I did cheers, also got receipt from the dealers a few years back when I bought it showing both belts and I remember them leaving the box with the old belts in for me to show they'd changed them so I feel its unlikely to be the belts but who knows?

Thanks for replying.
