remote entry fob problem

Featured Replies

hi guys i appreciate that people will have posted about similar issues . i have read a lot of posts and viewed videos and the problem i am encountering remains unresolved . trust me i have tried to resolve the issue .

ok my car is a 2007 ford focus zetec , 3 door model .

i bought the car about 3 months ago . since i bought it the remote entry key fob has been a problem . first if memory serves me it opened but would not lock . i ended up locking and unlocking using the key every time . the reason being even if the remote fob did work it seems to have only locked the drivers door , the passenger door remaining unlocked  . so i could not trust it to lock the car . that it worked to some degree did not last very long , it then ceased to work at all . so as i said ive been using the key to enter and lock all the time . this has become a problem as it seems to be getting more difficult to open the car that way , and im just worried the key may bend or break off inside the lock .

i have changed the battery in the fob . that did not make any great difference , i mean that the fob did work to a degree as i mentioned above , and again it then ceased to do anything at all after just a day or two . i should say that the central locking all locks fine when i lock with the key .

i even bought a new remote key fob from ebay . i tried to program both the old remote fob and the new remote fob using all directions i could find online and even on this forum, even the supplier of the new remote fob supplied me with instructions . none of these instructions work . or atleast they have not worked for me . every instruction says that i should hear a chime or beep when entering program mode , i get no beep or chime no matter what i try . so i guess then my car for what ever reason is not entering program mode .

should the car beep or chime and enter program mode for example EVEN IF THE REMOTE FOB WAS NOT WORKING ? . or would it fail to enter program mode in the event the fob was broken / not working for any reason ? . if that were the case i could see why the old remote MIGHT be a problem if its got some serious problem , but then i also have a brand new remote fob . so i am lost here .

as i said i have followed multiple different instructions to enter program mode , i mean what ever instruction used pretty much its just turning the key several times quickly . i watched on video also so i dont think ive done it wrong or too slow , but if i have maybe someone here can better advise me . i have just today tried going form position 2 to position 1 four times in 6 seconds , to no avail . if i have followed instructions to enter program mode correctly but my car wont do it , what then could be the problem ? . i have also ordered a diagnostic tool / cable , i forget the name but it was recommended on here in a post . ive not got it yet , but should be here soon . ive also noticed that when i see 2007 ford focus cars in video / pictures (you know in help guides ) that they all seem so far to differ from mine , even the ignition on mine is different , but i do appreciate there are different versions in different countries . so if the car should beep / chime and enter program mode but will not (assuming the new and old fob are working fine ) what then could be the problem ? . i should say the car works perfectly otherwise . there is one thought i had , i have the boot leak that 2007 ford focus can suffer with , i hope to have that fixed shortly . however because of the leak my car has a lot of condensation every morning as its winter . when i bought it it was late summer and it was dry . but now i have to dry or wipe the windscreen for example every morning and water drips from it down on to the dash board etc . so i am wondering could water / moisture have gotten in to an area it should not have causing the remote system to fail ? .

sorry for the long post and all these questions , im just struggling to get to the bottom of this , and i hope you guys may be the key to resolving this problem . and i appreciate any help you guys can give me , and thank you in advance . thanks guys

I don't have the answer unfortunately but love the 'you guys could be KEY' reference  😄 !

When I've done this a long time ago I sued to struggle with the on and off so many times within so many seconds - are you definitely going fully off to on the correct number of times in ten seconds? Do the locks cycle when you have done the on-off process? I think that's what it used to do but I could be wrong as I'm talking about my 2001 Mondeo which I recall cycled the locks....

Are you buying decent 2032 batteries or cheap Ebay/poundland batteries?

First I would try decent Panasonic or Energizer batteries.

Spray some WD40 in your lock mechanism and it won't be as stiff.

RKE receiver is mounted to the body above the front interior light, remove the light, check the connection and (more importantly) check that the earth mounting point is clean.
