2008 Fiesta alarm randomly goes off

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just picked up a 2008 1.6 5 door and the alarm randomly goes off. Any ideas where the sensors / switches are so I can WD40 them, or what the issue might be.  Is there a fuse that I could pull to disarm the alarm if I can't sort the problem?

Any suggestions welcomed.

Do u get a message saying your bonnet is open?

Not that I know of, it sits on the drive and after an hour or so it seems to go off randomly.  Done it several times. Any idea where the sensors are so I can give them a wd40 dousing?

I haven't checked this with your make and model year but If you get set up with FORScan there are normally PID's that tell you what triggered the Alarm the last 4 times and you can check the status if all the openings to see if they are showing as open when they are closed.

There is no fuse that you can pull.

There is no separate sensor/switch for the alarm system. The switch that is built inside of the door latch is used for 'Door Ajar' warning, the central locking and the alarm.

The bonnet alarm switch is the normal favorite on the Fiesta but that's not always the case. As @Tizer has said there is no fuse for the alarm system or other means to disable it, if it was that easy I'm quite sure every car thief would just go round pulling the fuse out.

Best answer is as Tizer has said and use FORScan to see what it is that triggers the alarm and then it should be quite easy to fix.

Cheers for the responses guys.  I'll douse the bonnet switch and generally give everything a good wd40, and see how it goes before I invest in diagnostic.  Had the car about a week and it's only gone off on two different days, random!

In the meantime if it was my car and I had to take a guess then I would take the connector off the Bonnet switch and bridge the terminals with something like a paperclip, insulate and secure it and see if it happens again.

After I've taken the bonnet sensor off and cleaned it with WD40 to date the alarm has behaved itself so hopefully it's sorted. Cheers to all who commented and offered help and support.
