Focus MK2 front wheel bearing replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently replaced the front wheel bearing on my MK2.

I nearly gave up half way through, but it all worked out in the end. Took a few days, but not bad for first time.

Here is a video of what I’ve done:

Great video, I love vids like this where it shows how to overcome all the obstacles that arise due to age/rust! So many 'how to' have a pristine car where all goes like a text book. Shared your joy when the shaft finally came free! I'm sure you also changed the RHS one too as I was always told that you should replace both when one goes as they have both covered the same mileage...

Thank you.

I haven’t changed the RHS yet due to the weather, but I’ll do it soon.

I am sure it looked well easier when @stef123 done mines. Good job though 😁

I don’t agree with the theory that the other side should be replaced. Based on my experience of bearings failing on my cars I have only ever replaced the one that failed and the other side never failed during my ownership.

In over 4 decades of car ownership, I've only ever had to replace wheel bearings on 2 occasions, both times changing LHS & RHS at the same time, maybe I was wrong...

Maybe just making sure it doesn't but yes I had done just my driver's side one on my previous car and agree if it not broke don't fix it.

My rule on this subject is that if a failure occurs on a plane, then change both, if it occurs on a motor vehicle then just change one and leave the other untouched.

It hasn't let me down so far.

Brilliant video, and well done getting there in the end. It's convinced me not to even attempt doing mine, so thanks for that!
