Engine Malfunction

Featured Replies

The Engine Malfunction light comes on and I lose a small amount of power, after a while all power goes and I cannot accelerate at all. I turn the engine off for ten seconds and it restarts and runs for a while until the whole process starts again. This can be pretty daunting while drive on a motorway.

There is no patten to when this happens, it can be on long a short or long journey and the weather can be freezing or just cold, wet or dry.

Ford dealer has carried out a diagnostic test and told me that the fuel additive tank needs refilling at a cost of £600, that might solve the problem if not it could be the turbo.   Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

Like I said in your other post, you need the fault code for us to give you any sort of advice. Also what engine you have would be nice lol.

I'm not entirely convinced a fuel additive costs £600 though.

confused !!

Your car doesn't have an Ad-blue tank. What are they planning on refilling for £600 ?

It sounds more like it needs the Flux Capacitor recharged, I'll ask a specialist @StephenFord to check if he has any stock left.

Has this got a dpf that uses Eloys fluid , or something like that , might have got the name wrong

It sounds like what was happening to mines and looks to be the same engine in the 2009. With the engine running and the bonnet open listen to the right hand side where the air filter is and listen for unusual noises. Mines had a noise from the part in the below pic located on the side of the block opposite the relay box and replacing it fixed the problem. But your are best to get a code reader to make sure too. The code I had was P2263.

2.0 TDCi Fords do not use Eolys and do not require any refills or maintenance. The refill only applies to the 1.6 engines.

Out of stock buddy, was doing an offer of giving one away with every 3x MayPoles LOL

The code that has been showing is P1922-60

So it seems you have run out of DPF PAT fluid. Should be a simple matter to refill for less than £40. This video might help:-

That's not correct.  Both the 1.6 TDCI and 2.0 TDCI with DPF in the Mk2 and early Mk2.5 Focus uses Eolys fluid.  Around 2009 they changed to a coated DPF system that requires no additional fluid.  No Eolys at all in Mk3's.

I gathered that after he got the last code 😂 Looks like a pain to fill it

Yeah, wasn't trying to be an *****, just wanted to clear it up for anyone reading this thread in future!

It is a pain to refill...and makes a hell of a mess if you spill any!  Oh...and if it's completely run out, you need to use diags to reset the level counter and prime the system.  Probably not a driveway job for most people in all honesty.  Also worth noting that fault can be caused by a wiring issue or faulty component, not necessarily run out of fluid, though refilling is still the first thing I'd try with that code alone.
