Can someone confirm for me (quite urgent) Cig lighter always on or switched ?

Featured Replies

just had a thought

I've had to hook up my dashcam battery pack to my cig lighter temporarily as the hardwired lead isn't charging it

I have a mk 2.5 (2008/2009) Focus Zetec, and ive left it plugged in under the arm rest

I don't want to drain the main battery lol

My 2005 Mk2 is a permanently on 12v socket, so pretty useless, hence I installed an additional socket which is live with key only. Can't you just wait a minute or so to see if your DashCam remains on after leaving the car? That'll tell you...

thanks

i guess they are all permanently on then ?

my camera will stay on anyway, because the Lipo4 battery is charged, and ive plugged that into the cig lighter to charge it

I'll get it taken out, just in case !

Thanks !!

If you have a 12v phone charger, plug it in with phone attached, and turn key off - you'll get an instant display of whether charging continues or not...

well, checked it, and car has been sat since about 2pm, checked the app for cellink battery and it said "discharging" and only lost 10% (in 4 hours ish)

im wondering if it turns off after 20 mins

surely, if i plug in my phone and when i turn the engine off, and its still charging, it could still turn off after a time, but i suppose it would eliminate it being always on or ignition on

ive unplugged it anyway "just in case"

On my MK3.5 the socket stayed live for 75mins, which would tie in with your experience today.

wonder why they opted for 75mins ..

Also wondering what the Mk 2.5 does 😉

The MK2.5 one stays on I used to be able to fully charge my vape it ran out at work.

Hardwire it into the fuse box, really easy and will save a lot of hassle.
