I will find out pretty soon how good tunnel rat is, and my computer skills, as im ordering my upgrade cluster and key tomorrow.

Pretty nervous about turning my Mk2 into a paperweight, but it needs doing.

I've got 2 months in which to sort it as thats the expiry on my Forscan full trial. Also downloaded ELM config just incase.

You can apply for a renewal of the free license after 2 months, but to be honest I think it's about £10 for the lisence per year. That's not bad considering all the works the dev's do for the end users.

Make sure you save copies of your AS BUILT data before you make any changes, and copy them onto an external source too, just in case you brick the laptop too lol.

Only make one change at a time and after each change check the car is as expected. It's much easier to roll back one change than it is to try and pinpoint 1 error out of 15 potential lines.

Utilise the Forscan forum, there is a wealth of information there and people are usually happy to help. Just read up on all the things you want to do and then write it all down or print it out so you have it in front of you when you do the work.

I made a spreadsheet of what I wanted to do. I made a note of the line I wanted to change, noted what it was to start with and what I wanted to change it to. Once done I would tick it off, once checked the car was still alive it got a second tick. I know it sounds proper anal but if it goes ***** up, panic sets in and you can forget where you are up to. The very last safety measure I took was to use a screen recording app, which kept a real-time log of everything. Especially handy if you get a warning pop up display for a second and you can't read it, you can playback and pause.

Like I said, it's definitely overkill and people will laugh but 🤷‍♂️ it made me feel safer lol

I tried redoing the trial extended licence and it won't let me. Says I've done it too many times or something like that.

So I bought 12 months for around £8.50.

I just checked, the 1 year is £8.19 and 3 years is £16.90 Not too bad really.

I did hear that of you change the date on your laptop then it tricks the download server and allows you to get another license 😜

only problem is the next time you connect to your car FORScan do the same and roll the software back to a 'Model T' Ford 🤣

Thank you guys VERY MUCH for the additional info, they guy i'm buying off will help remotely and im studying the video's on youtube etc so i feel more comfortable and i may get my daughter involved as she's a wizz.

Watched a couple of vids last night, and its sort of allayed some of my fears.

I think theyve closed that loophole as when downloading it states to make sure you have the correct date on your laptop

As an aside Kudos to Forscan working with 10/11 many other car progs still only run properly on win 7

My 1st car and only had 3 months, fault codes are showing as a random misfire and 3rd cylinder misfire. I dont have a clue what this means or if its an expensive fix,

Hopefully finding this forum will help me if i do have any problems before i go to a garage and i dnt get ripped off, recomended by a fellow user

Which engine?

Check coil pack connections or coil on plug connections are secure, replace spark plugs.

If your car has a coil pack with HT leads to the spark plus, change the HT leads as well.

After that the fault is with the coil pack (If it has one)

Or one of the coil on plug coils has gone down.
