Ford Focus EcoBoost catastrophic engine failure due to oil pressure failure

Featured Replies

Our Ford Focus 1.0T 2018 EcoBoost suffered a catastrophic engine failure dur to a 'low oil pressure' arising apparently to the oil pump becoming blocked.  We have had the car regularly serviced but missed the service interval by a few thousand miles due to various human factors.  Ford Customer Care state that the oil pump will become blocked though particulates accumulating if the service interval is not respected. A car valued at £25K is now worthless because we missed the service interval by a coupe of months.  From our perspective it appears there is an inherent design fault with the engine and I wonder if other Ford owners have experienced similar issues?

There's dozens of topics on the forum explaining this issue. It's not too uncommon unfortunately, but the majority of people that have had an engine fail have admitted they missed a service.

In short, the timing belt (that runs in oil) will degrade if the oil isn't changed on time. The little bits of rubber blocks the inlet to the oil pump and bye bye engine.

Not entirely sure where you've got that inflated figure from, but it's certainly not worthless now.

Ford Focus 1.0 96 plate. just gone in local garage. Been toe oil pump belt gone and looking at total strip down and could still be bits in the engine!

Or new engine at 6k

Garages tell me this is common for fords. How can ford not sort this out. So got a car now I can not sell as oil pressure warning on. If I can turn this off will trade it in and run away

In the words of John McEnroe "You can not be serious !!"

..... and actually the failure of the oil pump belt on a Focus Mk4 is not a common problem.

I'd not worry too much about the 'one post wonder' he only called in looking for sympathy but forgot to call back to see if anyone had left him any 🤣 probably how he missed the correct service date.
