Suspension knock from rear

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2019 Focus with only 3k on the clock. I’m getting a knocking clunking noise at really low speed from rear of car. Not spare wheel or rear seat, I do feel it is suspension related.

With such a new/low mileage car, you'd have to be very unlucky to have a suspension issue. My 1st port of call would be to properly totally empty the spare wheel well. Something may simply have come dislodged, like the tow eye bar, or something else. Will cost you nothing to look and well worth the 5 minutes it will take...

My brand new focus in 2018 had a defective shock absorber from the day I picked it up!  I made the dealer swap it out or mother car in the show room or I was going to reject it immediately!!

I hope you were courteous. It wasn't his fault it was a faulty unit, he only sold it! 😁

Yes, already removed everything including trim panels. Bought this Focus ex Demo only 600 miles on the clock. I wonder if it has been driven over a large pothole.

Still under warranty, straight back to dealer for this one.

Silliest rear susp knock I had was on the MX5 - replaced rear droplinks, then rear antirollbar mounts, then fixed it with gaffer tape! Turns out the shock has a grey plastic cap on top the got displodged, re-lodged itself, then dislodged - you get the picture! Wound a layer of gaffer tape around the top of the shock, jammed the cap down and no trouble since I did that about 5 years ago ...

I get a thump from the near side rear, 2020 with 5500 miles, small pot holes, not at low speeds, will mention when I have the 1st, service in June, none of the other make a noise, so a little suspicious.

I also have a knock from rear suspension of 2019 Focus ( 8,300 miles). Garage refuse to admit to it but I am very aware of it and find it extremely irritating, as does my partner.

I took my car to a Ford dealer for it's first mot as I have a little warranty left, I mentioned the thump on n/s rear, it passed the mot! I still think something isn't right, it's only the n/s rear that does it, I would like to think it's not dangerous as it passed mot, still really annoying, I must look like a drunk driver trying to avoid potholes in the road.(12,000 miles now) it doesn't take that much to make it thump, doesn't sound like a knock to me, but it is extremely annoying.
