Ford Focus MK4 2019 1.5 Auto Judder

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2019 ford focus in automatic gearbox. The car is slightly juddering while switching gears around 18 mph and 28 mph. It also feels like it is breaking while shifting down from 28 mph. There was one time while I was accelerating uphill and at 18 mph it was no longer a judder, but the car felt like it went flying forwards.

Has anyone experienced such issues? I have looked around forums and found that the ford auto boxes are temperamental, but this feels unsafe to drive.

I have booked in a ford dealership to look at it, the warranty expires in March. Also, I was informed I have to pay £65 for inspection ? Is that normal, surely if the car is covered by warranty it should be free.

Thanks,

Dan

Yes, I have had it happen to me, and it can be unnerving. It's like it's got a mind of its own. Not sure why it happens though.

The shudder/judder happened for me as well, most probably due to the transmission computer not knowing what gear to select. It's pretty stupid, tbh. My solution is to retrain it by driving it hard after a TCM reset, it's worked for me. Not a lot of judder now but still happens on the odd occasion. I just go down a gear and that stops it.

As you are still in Warranty they need to be NOT charging diagnostic fee.

First point of call they should be checking transmission fluid level AND condition, regardless of mileage.

Second, they should be performing an update to the PCM and TCM ECUs

Thirdly, they should be resetting "adaptive learning strategy" and performing a re-learn drive cycle.

Any issues call Ford CRC and complain.

Do not pay diagnostic fee, you are in warranty, if they are adamant call Ford CRC
