MK2 FL 2008 broken antenna base

Featured Replies

Today when removing snow from the roof of my car i broke the antenna base. The grey metal base is left while the "housing" fell off along with the whip. I have the Blaupunkt/Bosch navi system as pictured under.

Is there any way i can fit a shark fin antenna (preferably a Ford one, but universal is also welcome) instead of replacing the old whip-type one? Does this use the Fakra or SMA-connector? Is the stock antenna active or passive?

Thanks a lot in advance for your reply.

Many years ago had a problem with a 2010 Kuga with the same radio/nav unit as yours. I broke the aerial base reversing the car out the garage and the aerial got caught on the garage door and snapped off.

The aerial base is 'Active' with built in pre-amp. The coaxial cable is connected by a SMA direct to the base. There is also a small power lead (about 600mm long) which connects in to the main wiring harness in the rear left pillar.

I looked at the time of trying to replace it with the newer Sharks fin but couldn't find anything compatible

Thanks for your reply. Mind you, this was many years ago you searched for it, so i guess something more universal has reached the market maybe. I did some research last night and found that it has a Fakra-connector at the back for the GPS by the way.

ah yes !! I do remember now that there were 2 connectors. I guess one is the radio signal and the other the Sat Nav.

Yes. But i don't find the base very "active" as i only find the antenna connection (broken that is) inside of it. No other components.

Hi, that is totally different to the aerial on my 2010 Kuga. In fact I don't think I have ever seen style here in the UK

Just to clarify; the "whip" is not the stock one, i replaced it with a stub due to installing external dab-receiver so i didn't need fm-reception. But this affected the navi reception, so now it has gone crazy showing the date in may 2014 or something 😂well, i will just keep on searching after something i can use.

My aftermarket head unit pulls in the correct time and date info from GPS signal so if you’ve lost that due to the broken antenna it could well revert back to a default date instead.

Yeah, it started fooling around with dates when i got the stubby aerial, so that is no good for navigation. I just needed a short one to receive fm-signals from the dab-receiver. Didn't want the long stock whip. But now i want the navi to work since it is there.

Found a pic on another forum that makes more sense, it seems like the circuitboard has been ripped out aswell cause this looks like the same base. It might lay on the ground in the snow around my car. Guess it's far from salvageable but at least i know what it is if i find it!😁

That looks like the one I had on my 2010 Kuga 👍

Ok. I might just put on a universal gps aerial and hide it in the top compartment in my dashboard. I don't use it anyway! And de-aerial the roof maybe.

Yep, now is the hole blanked. A 32mm just covered the holes, color coded it to blend in a bit nicer and sealed it with transparent Sika.
