Generator failure on 1.6 ti-vct 125 hp

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Recently my car started to have issues while accelerating my 2011 mk3 focus. If I press the acceleration pedal harder, while on low-middle rpm (below 2500-3000) it starts to misfire and to kickback (e.g turning back the cruise control after brake, or accelerating from low rpm after slowing down in city traffic). The acceleration seems to be poorer at low rpms, as I can only apply about a third or half throttle before the symptoms appear. Above 3000 it seems to have no problems. I had been to my local ford dealer,  they tested it and said,  that there is no problem, no dtcs, maybe I have ignition problems (and to replace ignition coils, cables, spark plugs). O2 sensors and fuel trimms seem to be ok according to them.

Today after some "stress test", I had the MIL triggered with the battery light for some minutes. The test mode was on, and voltage had been ok, about 14,5, even during the period the battery light was on. I have two DTCs in my pcm, which seem to hint, that there was a temporary generator connection failure.

My question would be: does this mean, that a generator problem can cause this type of acceleration problem (even if on board voltage seems to be ok)? Or is this dtc caused by the problems on coil/ignition side by stressing the generator?

Should I replace the whole ignition pack (coil/cables/plugs), though they seem to be ok physically, or should I investigate yhe generator?

My other theory would be, that the generator dtc is caused by the intense movement of the engine during the misfire and kicking phases, perhaps a poor connection, and it is more like a coincidence.
