Any decent brands / lasting water pumps for ST170 or Mk1, Ford seem to be asking nearly £150

Featured Replies

Hello all

Any decent lasting water pumps / or brands to look out for, for ST170 or any Mk1, Ford seem to be asking nearly £150 ! or is it worth paying the price ?

Mixed reviews online!

As my cambelt needs doing, probably invest in a water pump :-)

Kind thanks

So assuming it's the original pump then it's lasted 18 years and it hasn't even failed yet. Is it worth £150, probably. Should you spend that on a new pump for your 2004 car ? probably not. Unless you plan on keeping it for another 18 years.

yes original - yes i plan to try and keep the car for a good more few years as its not really cost fortunes over the years, usual ware and tear - paid ford prices in the past and yes has done well but seems they are just riping the costs nowadays, when you think they would want to rid the parts, but hey guess they can for supply and demand!

fair comment - cheers

Is it £150  for just the pump or does it also include installation of the pump?

For just the pump £150 is quite steep. There are lots of high quality alternatives available for less than £40

anything ST170 seems to draw high prices, even though it's a mk1 focus with tweaks - direct ford prices, thanks for the links, i've use autodoc - i was just really wanting anyones experience with the pumps, yes one part tells me go ford because its 17 years old - good result! but another tells me how long will the car last, to be fair in the past i have stuck with ford parts (90% of the time) so seems its worked, but nowadays the prices are super high compared to when i got parts over the years, supply and demand I guess! Some prices up to 50% more, you would like to think they would be grateful people getting rid of their old stock for them !!, again supply and demand!

THANK YOU for your reply 😉

Genuine Ford pump for £100 on ebay - Genuine Ford Escort Mk6 Mondeo Mk1 Mk2 Focus Mk1 1.8 2.0 Water Pump 1517732 | eBay

You can get a Gates pump for about half that.  Or others for around £30.

Yes thanks for that - found that one today as well ;), really wanted peoples experience on non ford parts, to be fair as mine is 17 years - probably go with ford and pay the extra

THANK YOU for your reply ;)

I've personally never had any problems or heard of anyone else o here complaining about Gates in terms of water pump/timing belt kits etc.
