Focus Power Steering issue

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I bought a ford Focus trend 5T 1.6 td/ 66kw  DA3 (in Austria) (2009)

Its about 95000 km on this car and i just noticed that it makes a shake and a little sound noticeable when i am about to roll the steering. then it starts a continuous whinning sound (only hearable from outside). Any idea what might be causing this or somebody faced same issue? I looked for a reservoir for the steering fluid to check the fluid but did not see any under the hood.  +

Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm pretty sure it's electric steering on these, ensure the battery is fully charged

Fluid reservoir will be below the left hand headlight . (Left hand as you look straight ahead as per your picture)

It has EPS, no reservoir.

It's electro hydraulic on most Mk2s with a reservoir below the headlight.  Full electric wasn't fitted until Mk3.  Some petrol Mk2s had full hydraulic.

I also think it is Electro Hydraulic and if it is then any replacement may need to be coded into the car.

It's hydraulic with an electric motor instead of a mechanical pump.

In theory it should never need to be touched hence being under the headlight, but it's there
