Engine malfunction

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 59 plate focus 1.6 tdci zetec and I get an intermittent fault saying engine malfunction but there is not engine light. When the message comes on i lose all power and it takes ages to rev up. Any ideas?

Checking the diagnostic codes via the obd port is the correct way to go but first check if the fault occurs if you slap the dash directly above the centre of the instrument cluster. If this occurs it could be the dry solder joint in the cluster.

No codes showing and messgae comes and goes but still no power to engine

What are you using to check for codes?

For now .... I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again

Intermittent faults like that shouldn't be discounted as solved until a few months without recurrence. A new filter may help but a tank of fresh fuel very rarely helps in the long term
