MK3 (2017) estate rear number plate bulb / assembly

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My Focus failed it's MOT today because the rear number plate bulb has failed.  Is there a fuse for that as reading other posts here and elsewhere, it is is an LED unit.  I'm guessing there isn't a single LED in the unit, but they must be wired in series else it's odd for all of them to fail.

If there isn't a fuse, I found this on a certain auction site, and looking at mine, it looks a like this:

Has anyone replace one of these?  It it an easy job?

I think there must be a fuse, can't think why there wouldn't be??? But don't know which fuse, I'm afraid. And I don't know if it also feeds the microswitch.

I think there's only a single LED - don't know why you think otherwise???

It's a simple job - prise each end out with a flat bladed screw driver. You may demolish the old unit in doing so, but so what. There's a plug and socket connector on a flying lead and then the new unit just pushes in (there's a spring clip at each end).

Don't believe the you tube video that says you have to remove panels from the inside of the tailgate.

Thanks.  I thought there must be more than one, but on closer inspections, yes, probably not.   I just need to find the right one.   When I put my reg in ebay, find get a message saying that one is not compatible.

The boot release still works, so I'm guessing it can't be the fuse.

Hi, the number plate light is connected on the sidelight circuit and is directly controlled by the BCM, there is no fuse.

The boot release switch is controlled by the central locking circuit and is separate to the lighting circuit.

The handle/light assembly is intended to be removed from the inside after the internal rear panel has been removed. It can however be removed from the outside with a bit fiddling about using the edge of an old credit card.
