Should the Mk2 dashboard headlight switch symbols light up?

Featured Replies

Should the symbols on the headlight switch by the steering wheel on the Mk2 be lit?

Mine is not, but I have seen a photo of the dashboard taken in darkness where it appears that they are lit.

That may have been on a later Mk2 with orange dash lighting if that makes a difference.

Does the switch have an internal bulb that can be replaced?

Mine is a 2005 LX, my switch has never lit up since I bought it, but I guess that could just mean the bulb has been blown for years LOL When the lights are on, there is a 'headlight' symbol lit up in green on the rev counter.

EDIT!!

Well, blow me, just went out to check, and the switch actually does light up - who knew LOL

Mine on both my facelift mk2 always lit up, I believe they also dim with the roller switch. Maybe you have it set to the lowest setting and it does not look like it is on?

Dimming roller is not in every trim level. Mine (mk2 facelift) didn't has it originally, but retrofitted with one from Ghia trim level.

Now, are you just teasing us with green coloured symbols, or do they really light up green??

Thanks for the replies.

I checked mine first thing this morning.

The symbols on the switch body light up green when the lights are turned on. I also get the green headlight symbol on the rev counter dial.

However, the notch and bulb symbol on the switch dial itself do not light up at all.

Mine also has no dimmer wheel. Does a switch unit with a dimmer work with no other changes if it is swapped in?

Looking at photos of the switch units on ebay, there don't appear to be any easily removable bulbs. I don't want to try disassembling the unit I have in case something breaks.

They light up green. As said, I retrofit original switch with one form scrap yard (just assumed it's from Ghia trim level).
In fact, I don't even know whether retrofit switch is from mk2 or mk2.5, but it's left-hand drive car (if it matters).

I think, this's Mondeo mk3 switch (light symbol in handle lids, but Focus one it doesn't; not least in mine).

In my case it was simple switch change - no any modifications required.

The LHD switch looks to be a mirror image of the RHD type.

The electrical connector is quite possibly the same.
