Car won't start. New battery installed.

Featured Replies

Hey people,

I have a ford focus 66 plate auto stop start. Yesterday I got in my car after work it wouldn't start and needed a jump. I took it to a garage and they told me I need a new battery so I got one installed. Woke up this morning started fine no issues. Got in it after work and again it failed to start. My radio keeps telling me it's entering battery saving mode and the dials on my dash keep vibrating. I've also noticed that when I lock the car sometimes the wing mirrors don't go in and I've had to open the door and close it again for it to lock properly. Also so when sitting in my car with it locked the dials are constantly vibrating even though everything should be turned off. My guess is that there's something drawing power from the battery but surely it shouldn't drain that much within a 6 hour period. I've also noticed my auto stop start in traffic isn't working too. Anyone else had the same issue?

Has the new battery been programmed to the car ??

1) Ignition on

2) Sidelights on

3) Press rear fog light switch 5 times

4) Press hazard light switch 3 times

5) Wait for battery light to blink twice.

Fully (100%) charge the new battery with a battery charger, before carrying out the battery monitor reset procedure.

To flatten a new, fully charged 60AH battery in 6 hours would need 10A of current, that is about 120Watts of power, enough to make even quite a large item like an alternator, smoking hot. So it would be apparent.

I guess most of the symptoms listed relate to the old battery, and Ford stop-start is notorious for failing on anything but a nearly new battery. So I would, as suggested above, ensure the battery is fully charged, then try the BMS reset procedure given. If that fails, get Forscan (plenty of info on this site), that will give a BMS reset procedure, and may give diagnostic info if that still fails.

I remember once when my battery went flat I had to call AA out and it just wouldn't start.

Put diagnostics machine and it set of crash detector so had to reset it. Started straight away after that.

Pretty sure this can be done using forscan and resetting fault code, if it is that.
