EGR blank, yes or no

Featured Replies

What's the craic lads and ladies

I'm toying with the idea of blanking the egr in my 09 1.8tdci

So my questions are

Has anyone here done it

Is it OK to do

Is there any improvement in driving

Is there an increase of risk to my engine

As always thanks in advance for any info

Niall,

I did this to my 06 Mondeo 2.2 TDCI. The car was blowing out black smoke and going into limp mode. Renewed egr, six months later, same thing. Blanked the thing off, knowing that on mine, the engine management light would stay on, as I had an electrical connection from the egr to the ecu, rather than vacuum.

I then had to delete the egr from the ecu. For me, no more problems, drives like a dream. I have also got the egr delete to fit.

hope this helps.

Thanks Jack

Yeah I've heard the management light issue on the 2.0 and 2.2 mondeo's

Have the blank with gaskets in my hand now..

Gonna pop it in tomorrow along with the boost gauge I've been wanting to install for weeks now

Cheers mate, gonna take the leap and see how she goes

EGR on my 2005 1.8 TDCi has been blanked for at least the last 8 years without issue, because the 1.8 TDCi is old school it doesn't throw a strop when blanking the EGR is blanked off.

When you've had it blanked off for just 1 year, remove the blanking plate and just see how much crap is stuck to it!

So bit the bullet this morning and blanked off the egr and I have to say i feel a huge difference in how she drives, took her for a 30min spin and i can feel a difference in the response when accelerating i also popped the boost gauge in while I was at it

Need to tidy up a bit but she works a treat. Can't upload the video for some reason
