EcoBoost - New Turbo For Peace Of Mind?

You can get a genuine turbo for under 500 above.

Regarding the TMPS I would buy the program tool from Amazon and try re programing them its an easy process youtube has some videos on it. The TMPS are around 30 each from Ford.

I've been shocked by the state of approved used cars at main dealers, let alone the ones at car supermarkets.  I too was drawn in by the 'million point check' claims, which I now believe to be just marketing rubbish!  Reality is, they're handling hundreds of cars a day with low profit margins, they can't be too fussy.

Did Cinch replace the tyres out of interested?  They may have broken the TPMS sensor after taking the car in.

I went with my sister a week ago to look at a 16 plate Audi at CarGiant and found it had a new rear bumper that was sprayed badly along with a new bonnet sprayed the wrong shade of white. Also the previous owner had done a rattle can colour change of the alloywheels and mirror caps.

Why not send it back with the 14 day cooling off period? The terms say you aren't allowed to do more than 250 miles in 14 days, I've already done 300+ unfortunately.

Irrespective of that, you may already have enough grounds (turbo pipes, TPMS sensors, dodgy tyres) to reject the car anyway under consumer rights legislation. Really don't see why you should be paying to fix pre-existing faults.

Eric makes a solid point

Acording to the consumer rights act if the car decription / advert didnt say that the TMPS didnt work along with the other issues then yes you can send it back even if their T&Cs go against that as the original advert was misleading. If you decide to return it send a email stating your reasons ASAP as after 30 days your right to return gets much more complicated.

Hmm... What if the TPMS etc all 'just happened' to break during my first journey?

The delivery driver could say he didn't note any issues.

It all then becomes 'he said, she said'.

Annoyingly, the car is in great shape, no scratches to the body or dinks to the alloys, hence why I'd rather try and get things fixed than risk another in worse condition.

For the first 30 days from recieving the car all the rights are on your side (Consumer rights act) after that you have to prove it was faulty when you recieved the car.

My car is a 2015 version and all my TMPS sensors worked up until 2021 then I replaced them as I had my wheels re furbished. 4 x TMPS from Ford was 120 and the program tool was 12 from Amazon. Yes they do go wrong as they run off a in built battery.

I doubt the turbo pipes suddenly got in that condition!

Wouldn't rely on what the delivery driver said.

The delivery driver told me my new company car was "fine" some years ago but it was immediately apparent when I drove off the clutch was slipping badly and it lost all drive in the middle of a busy junction.

I should have known - the same guy had delivered my previous car, on which the turbo was obviously not operating (turned out a pipe had blown off) and he said that one was "fine", too!😀

Cinch didn't mention anything about changing tyres - There's one ancient Continental on the rear, the other three are all different odd-sounding cheapo makes (I will get all four replaced when I get these other bits fixed).

When getting new tyres, where is the best place to go that won't break the TPMS sensors?

Regarding tyres, take a look at Michelin CrossClimate or other "all weather" tyres they are a new blend of summer and winter tyres

Hi

You say the tyres haven't been changed but have the alloys been refurbished?

I ask because I had the same problem with the warning light coming on but when it got checked the sensor hadn't been put back in when my alloys were refurbished when I bought my car. Luckily I wasn't paying for the sensors. (Arnold Clark picked up the bill for that)

I have to agree with previous posts if you have that many problems speak to Cinch and see if you can either reject it or get them to pay under your warranty.

When I bought mine from Arnold Clark I had to have alloys refurbished, bit of paintwork and tpms sensors but it was all at their cost as it was under their warranty.

Hope this helps

My general experience with buying a car from a deeler that they got as a part ex, was i had to get them to plug a computer into the car for checking codes, at which point they said they would fix it all before we collected the car, had to fix it myself as what im presuming they did was just reset DTC and not see why the dtc was recurring after they "serviced" the car which was really an MOT. About 2 weeks later EML from a bad O2 sensor which we got them to change under waranty. My point is you have to hold the deelerships to account as a lot of the buisness model is based of the assumption the consumer is either gonna be ignorant of any technical knowledge, a push over, or just stupid. Hold cinch to account as previous posters have said consumer rights law is in your favour.

Can't the pipes just be replaced  or do you have to  buy a complete turbo ?

no, because that would be a good design that would require ford engineers to actually think about the future failure modes of parts

Complete turbo required, unfortunately.
